De Gulden Poorte
The De Gulden Poorte building has a rich history that began in the 18th century as a neoclassical city palace built under the direction of architect Jan de Vroey. He completed several buildings in Belgium, among them, Hotel Wagner on the Frankrijklei, the Bréé house on the Mechelsesteenweg and the Banque du Crédit Anversois on the Gasthuisstraat as well as the Banque du Crédit Commercial on the Lange Klarenstraat in Antwerp. De Vroey designed them using a variety of styles, ranging from neoclassical to Art Nouveau and the Beaux-Arts. In 1919, the building was converted into the offices of the Compagnie Continentale d'Importation, and then in 1971, into the bank premises of the Hypotheek en Kapitalisatiemaatschappij, known as HKM. De Gulden Poorte then underwent a major renovation by LXRYHOME in 2024.The building was also fitted with a brand-new slate roof. Along with the contemporary touches of luxury and comfort, all of the authentic elements have also been beautifully preserved, including the gorgeous wooden banquettes on the patio, the sculpted high ceilings, the bespoke marble mantlepieces, the arty ornaments and the unique lift (of which there are only a few left in Antwerp) with its dark wood and ornate design including an Art Nouveau twist. In short, unique luxury living in the heart of Antwerp's city centre, each of these apartments has a luxurious finish and furnished with exquisite furniture by Belgian designers and brands such as Ethnicraft, Serax, BazarBizar, as well as carefully hand-picked art. What’s more, each apartment is named after a well-known banking family.
