‘Pendennis Castle’
The name Pendennis Castle comes from a castle on the most south-western tip of England. The original Pendennis Castle was built by order of King Henry VIII in 1539. It served as the first buffer against the French and Spanish. The Pope had asked both countries to reinstate Catholicism in England. This was because Henry VIII had abolished Catholicism as the state religion so that he could divorce his wife and seize more power. Pendennis Castle in Brasschaat prides itself on a more modest history.
Shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, an Englishman built Pendennis Castle at the junction of the Augustijnslei and the Aerdenlei, axially implanted on the Duboislei. He fled to England during the war and sold Pendennis Castle to the Luxembourg factory manager Kaell. In 1964, the Gabriels family bought Pendennis Castle and turned it into a home for children of bargees. The family subsequently operated a boarding house for the elderly there, and later on again it was converted into a hotel. In 2002, Pendennis Castle was redeveloped into a unique project in a beautiful location in the heart of Brasschaat comprising 15 luxury apartment with large terraces and underground parking, featuring the distinctive architecture of Poponcini & Lootens The starting point was to create optimal living comfort for the fortunate residents, preserve the original castle for the private Bank parts, and design two new buildings in the garden park that respect both the castle and the heritage trees. The atmosphere of the old castle and the modern buildings in the garden park form a formidable triumvirate. In 2020, Lxryhome purchased a number of apartments and a penthouse to furnish them tastefully with exquisite furniture from Belgian designers and brands such as Ethnicraft, Serax, BazarBizar.
